Hey all,
Ok so we are finally back even if it is just in this small form at the moment. We are hoping to get back up to printing some issues and putting them out as soon as possible, but in the meantime we have joined with the GCMIA and GCBANDS.COM to help bring you some Gold Coast Music goodness via this PDF newsletter.
I am asking all Gold Coast music people to please send us (editor@undertowpress.com) any local live pics, local gig or local CD reviews, local music news and well anything local Gold Coast and music. We are also taking requests for interviews and feature articles, so email editor@undertowpress.com if you or your band is interested.
We are also trying to put together a new Gold Coast music business and artist directory so if you want to be included please email us with your band/artist name, website, genre and myspace name.
I hope we can all continue to grow the Gold Coast music scene and show the rest of Australia what we have to offer. There are a number of local businesses and organisations that are here to help, and with everyones support we can see the music scene expand around us all.
Thanks
Guy Cooper

OLD NEWS

20/5/07
After almost two years and 20 issues, Undertow, Gold Coast music street press is currently unable to continue due to financial restraints.

We have applied for several grants, local, private and state gov and have had no luck. We require approximately $10,000 a year to operate, which has been paid for in the past by Serotonin Productions and our advertisers and supporters. At present the support has dried up, and we are unable to continue making issues.

We believe that a music street press is one of the most important things missing from the Gold Coast music scene and it is required for us to grow and get more notice in the national scene. Hopefully either us, or another group of dedicated local individuals can keep this going. I have recently spoken to a few other local people who are looking at starting a Gold Coast music press/mag, and we are more than happy to support in any way we can. If someone out there (maybe a business) has any ideas of where we can find some funding, or is keen to take over Undertow from here and help keep it going, please contact me (Guy Cooper, guy@serotoninproductions.com.au). We would be open to a major sponsor, if any business would like a music press in their name, or another group of people who think they can help give the coast a music press.

Thanks must go to all the bands and businesses that have helped out with advertising and support over the past two years. Including Mescalito Blues, Gavin Hill from Dead Nation Records, Richard from Music Mania Southport, Julie Sutherland and Garry from the Bachelor of Popular Music Course, Brad Hinds from The Coolangatta Hotel, The Combovers, Karen from Bloodstock Studios, Mason Rack and Wet’n’Wild.

Thanks also to the local writers, photographers and fans who have contributed to the press. Adam Weathered for heaps of  awesome live photos, Andrew Hartwig, Zoe B, Jesse Bateman, Grant Teelow, Luke Sorenson, Aleyna Speirs, AJDC, Nicola Parsons, Manda Kitten, Megan Lowe. And all the bands and others who have sent things in to contribute.

Thankyou also to Luke Reichelt, who has volunteered his free time to help to create and edit this mag with me, over the past two years. At this stage we are taking a break to regroup and try and figure out a way to create some funding to run this mag again in 2008.

A big thankyou must also go to all you readers out there that have helped make Undertow the mag it is over the past two years, and hopefully we will be back soon.

Sincerely yours,

Guy Cooper
